Currently, most of the people that supply you with some sort of product that you use in your every day life. In this case clothing, are scrambling to find a way to keep their factories in China from completely refusing to produce their goods. You see, China has officially thrown down the gauntlet. They’ve taken the money that we’ve sent their way in the form of using them for cheaper labor and faster, mass production and put it back into their own pockets. Their government has helped build it’s own factories to help supply products and jobs to it’s own people (that’s different). Now, with less man power to produce for non-chinese business, costs and overall availability are damn near tripling. We know by now that the good ol US of A has sent jobs packing to cheaper parts of the world for years and this won’t be the first or last time it will kick us in the ass. But with our current financial state, and education on blue-light special, we maybe be royally fucked for sometime. I’m not necessarily ready to turn in my “gobal super power” card in yet either, but we might need to get used to not being number 1 real soon.
So, when your favorite brand start upping their prices for that nice new piece of denim, check the tags. They may be starting to fall inline with another new trend…made in the USA. Don’t be alarmed, it’s been done here before, and with a little luck it can be done again.
